Bio

Abbie Palmer is a Washington D.C.-based harpist, vocalist, composer, and producer who has spent her career redefining the boundaries of her instrument. From her roots in Classical, Celtic, and folk music to her current explorations in Electronic, World, and Contemporary Rock, Abbie has crafted a distinctive style that seamlessly fuses the traditional with the experimental.

The Performance Artist
As a touring musician, Abbie has performed globally with acclaimed acts such as The Devil’s Brigade, the Sean Heely Celtic Band, and Celtica Nova. A standout feature of her live performance is her pioneering work with a body-mounted electric harp. This unique setup allows her to stand and move freely, creating a high-energy stage presence rarely associated with the harp. Whether she is producing high-octane EDM-inspired tracks or performing as a singer-songwriter, Abbie’s work is defined by a passion for modern production and "vibrational vibes" that match her evolving sound as a solo artist.

The Healing Power of Sound
Beyond the stage, Abbie is an accomplished ambient artist and a board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) with over 15 years of clinical experience. After earning her bachelor’s degree in music therapy, she has dedicated her career to providing therapeutic support for individuals facing complex medical conditions. Her work spans a wide range of populations, including those with terminal illnesses, autism spectrum disorder, schizophrenia, Alzheimer’s and dementia, eating disorders, traumatic brain injuries, and PTSD within the military community.

Using harp, voice, piano, guitar, and percussion, Abbie helps clients achieve their therapeutic goals through music-based therapeutic goals. This expertise extends to her digital presence, where she leads global livestreams for meditators on the Insight Timer app, utilizing specialized de-escalation techniques and meditative music production.

The Educator
With 18 years of experience as a private instructor, Abbie has shared her love of music with students of all levels in harp, piano, voice, guitar, and ukulele. In addition to running her own private studio, she has served as a faculty member at five different music schools across the D.C. area. Her teaching philosophy balances a strong foundation in music theory, ear training, and sight reading with a deep encouragement for improvisation and personal expression. By organizing ensembles and recitals, she provides her students with the same performance opportunities that have shaped her own career.

Whether she is composing in the studio, performing under stage lights, or guiding a student’s first notes, Abbie Palmer remains dedicated to one mission: teaching others to embrace the freedom of musical expression.
